Evaluation of PVY Resistance in CRISPR‑Edited ‘Patagonia‑INIA’ Potato Lines

During July–August 2026, we initiated the experimental evaluation of our CRISPR‑edited ‘Patagonia‑INIA’ potato materials to assess their response to mechanical infection with Potato virus Y (PVY), one of the most economically important viral pathogens affecting potato production worldwide.

The trial included mechanical inoculation with PVY, weekly monitoring of symptom development, and ELISA testing at 21 days post‑infection (dpi).

Preliminary Results

• Several edited plants have displayed markedly reduced symptom severity compared to the non‑edited control.

• Two edited lines tested negative by ELISA, indicating no detectable viral presence at 21 dpi.

Significance

These encouraging results suggest that our edited ‘Patagonia‑INIA’ materials may confer effective resistance to PVY over the longer term. This represents a concrete step toward developing more resilient potato cultivars with reduced dependence on chemical control strategies.
